MY STORY & PHILOSOPHY
Welcome to Portsy Clay, your online destination for bespoke and one-of-a-kind ceramics designed and created by Paula Speight. After a long break from art, in 2019 I underwent Visual Arts training at TAFE focusing on printmaking and ceramics, I was quickly obsessed with both these mediums. Ever since I’ve been playing and exploring, often combining the techniques, printing onto clay and different ways to decorate from my home studio and becoming involved in exhibitions.

Being on the NW coast of Tassie and spending time on the East Coast, I’m constantly inspired by our spectacular landscape and coastal environment, you will see this represented throughout all the pieces I create.

My pottery is created from raw ingredients, glazes are made from scratch and fired in my kiln, 'ERIC'. It is varied from hand built to wheel thrown, using highly texturized course clays with lovely warm tones, sgraffito & mishima techniques, to buttery smooth porcelain with layers of printed slip applied depicting geological layers.

I believe that everyone should have access to beautifully crafted ceramics that are both functional and aesthetic. That's why I offer a wide range of ceramics, from plates to vases, that are perfect for any occasion. Products are made with love, care, and attention to detail, ensuring that each piece is unique and special.

Works are regularly exhibited with the TCA, available directly and in selected galleries.

Join me and my studio doggo Renzo on this journey to create a more sustainable future with beautiful ceramics that will last a lifetime xxx
